I enjoyed the flashbacks to the music of Madonna and my love of her songs when I was a teen. As I was reading the references to the rebellious singer, the songs would play in my mind.
Nazeman has written a beautiful story that embraces what a person is born to be. It is a story about a young man who comes to accept who he is despite the fear that surrounds him. It is a story about fighting for what you believe is right, no matter what is being reported in the media or how people treat you. It is a story that describes the fear of being different to expectations. It is a story about the courage to be yourself. It is a story about friendship and of love; and of supporting the people that you love.
Like A Love Story is one that has touched my heart. It is a read that takes you back to the past and encourages you to connect with characters that will remain with you long after you have completed the book. Be warned, though. One person found this helpful. Wow this book blew me away. I finished it a few days ago but I had to take some time to collect my thoughts because I want to do this book justice. If you have been eyeing this book or if my review is the first time your hearing of it then please, please do yourself a favour and go pick up this book.
It is beautiful and so many teens especially all my queer teens need to read it. Going into this book I knew it was going to be an emotional experience but I never expected this book to take a piece of my heart with it. First thing I want to say is I loved the sense of family in this book. It was one of my favourite and most heart breaking scenes to read.
The author does such a fantastic job at making this book such a visual experience. From the setting to each character I could visualize everything with this book. It was hard finishing this book because I felt such a connection with these characters. Abdi Nazemiam wrote characters that jumped off the page right from the beginning and managed to form such a connection with you that it was hard finishing this book.
This book is so important for so many reasons. Seeing characters like Reza who were so terrified of coming out because it was fear that was being drilled into these young gay teens by those suppose to be in authorities.

I have to say this again but this is just such a visual story. From the protests to the characters apartments I can visualize this story so well and honestly when is Netflix going to make a movie! I loved the role Madonna played in this book, it brought out so much of the 80s culture but also was so awesome to see the impact that she had on individuals.
I could go on and on about this book. It has become an all time favourite of mine but it means so much more than that. I have characters that will stay with me forever, a story that has broke my heart but also gave me hope because it shows how beautiful your own family can be, not a blood family but a family that you form. This is such a beautiful and powerful story.
